Homemade Lemon and Ginger Tea Recipe

Homemade Lemon & Ginger Tea

One of my favourite go-to drinks for any season is my tried and tested homemade blend of lemon and ginger tea. This refreshing, soothing and uplifting brew is packed with rejuvenating ingredients and bursting with flavour - plus, it's incredibly simple to make.

I love to create my own blend of lemon and ginger tea; not only does it taste better than a shop-bought alternative, it also means I can add in some extra ingredients, such as turmeric, or cinnamon, depending on my taste and mood.

The health benefits of lemon and ginger are well documented. A traditional detoxifying and immune-boosting remedy for colds and sore throats, lemon is bursting with vitamin C, while ginger is loaded with antioxidants, and if you really want your lemon and ginger tea to pack a punch, dropping in a dash of turmeric or cinnamon will add anti-inflammatory nutrients to create a powerful, health and wellbeing tonic.

If you're looking for an all-round herbal superhero tea blend, this simple lemon and ginger tea is for you! Here's my recipe for how to make Lemon & Ginger Tea at home.

Ingredients
1 lemon (sliced)
2cm piece of root ginger (grated)
Honey or agave syrup to sweeten
Approx 500ml of water

Optional: ½ tsp turmeric, cinnamon stick.

The Method
Peel and grate the ginger into a milk pan.
Add in the lemon, turmeric/cinnamon if using, plus the honey or agave syrup.
Pour in your water and gently heat and whisk the ingredients together. Keep on a gentle heat until you see steam rising out of the pan, be careful not to let your tea blend boil.
Pour your lemon and ginger tea blend through a sieve and into a cup and saucer or mug. Add any remaining tea into a teapot to keep warm.

Jo’s Top Tip - in the summer months, this blend works great as a refreshing iced tea. Prepare as above and serve over ice. I often make a large batch in the morning and place it in the fridge to keep me hydrated throughout the day.
